Gone so long

Spent the Summer the other day
Adults drinking café au lait
By the time the girl was young yet overwhelmed
Her big family was emotionally unprepared
A new century began
Her grandmother had a heart attack
“She’ll come back, though. Isn’t she?”
“Leave it all to God and we’ll see..”
Doctors came with bad news
Like she suffered from some more issues
“Rest in peace..” came out of his mouth
Her father and relatives began to doubt
The little girl
However
Started questioning forever
She couldn’t comprehend
What the doctor meant...
So dumb to understand
But on the other hand
Her mind later turned on:
She can’t live any longer
Hope she’ll be okay
2001: new year, new sibling
Hoping he won’t be weeping
For upcoming tragedies
Instead, he listened to good-night-melodies
“Twinkle, twinkle, little star
Oh, I hope nobody will go so far..”
Hugging her grandfather tightly
And tearlessly
Celebrating her cousin’s birthday round three years later
With family, friends and neighbours
Grandpa called the child
And told her the best stories of her life
The clock
Ticking tick-tock
So do days, weeks and months
Summer 2004
Something we all didn’t expect for...
Grandpa coughed and coughed
But this time, with a lot of exhaust
“He’ll come back, though. Isn’t he?”
“Leave it all to God and we’ll see..”
Doctors came with bad news
Like he suffered from some more issues
“Rest in peace..” came out of his mouth
Her father and relatives began to doubt
The little girl
However
Stopped questioning forever
Now she comprehends:
Her grandparents’ lives end
Little girl, almost eighteen
With a history
Of her dead grandparents
Visited the grave
Yesterday
And tried to stay brave
But failed
“Rest in peace..”, she mumbled
But didn’t puzzle
Anymore
“You two have gone so long..”
Hope he’ll be okay.
Hope they’ll be okay...
